Mozambique, a culturally rich destination on the southeastern coast of Africa, offers an idyllic combination of pristine beaches, diverse marine life, and a fascinating heritage. During the dry season, the warm and sunny weather creates perfect conditions for beach activities and water sports in places like the Quirimbas Archipelago, which is ideal for snorkelling and scuba diving. In the wet season, the country transforms with lush green landscapes and becomes a haven for birdwatchers, although higher humidity and occasional rains are expected. Mozambique’s vibrant culture is evident in its colourful markets and flavorful traditional cuisine, ideal for food lovers. Whether you are seeking a tranquil retreat on a private island, engaging in cultural exploration, or diving into marine adventures, Mozambique offers year-round travel experiences for every type of vacation.

The best time to visit Mozambique largely depends on what you want to experience during your trip. Mozambique has a tropical climate with a wet season and a dry season, and its coastal location makes it perfect for beach holidays and water activities.
Dry Season (May to November): This is generally considered the best time to visit Mozambique. The weather is dry and sunny, making it ideal for beach vacations, diving, snorkeling, and other water sports. Wildlife viewing in national parks is also better during this time as animals gather around water sources.
Wet Season (December to April): The wet season in Mozambique can be quite hot and humid, with occasional heavy rains. While the landscape is lush and green during this time, some areas may become inaccessible due to flooding. However, this is also a good time for birdwatching as migratory birds arrive in the country.
Keep in mind that Mozambique’s climate can vary from region to region, so it’s a good idea to check the specific weather conditions of the places you plan to visit.
Ultimately, the best time to visit Mozambique depends on your interests and what you want to do during your trip. If you’re planning a beach holiday or water activities, the dry season is usually recommended. If you’re interested in wildlife viewing or birdwatching, the wet season can also be a good choice.

Mozambique comprises three main regions: the Northern Region, famed for the Quirimbas Archipelago and Niassa Reserve; the Central Region, featuring the Zambezi River, Chimanimani Mountains, and Beira; and the Southern Region, home to the capital Maputo, Bazaruto Archipelago, and the coastal beauty of Inhambane and Vilankulo.
Our region guide will help with your initial planning, but our team of Africa specialists, Matt and Felix, are there to support your your trip to Mozambique.
The Quirimbas Archipelago is a jewel-like string of perfect coral islands running along the northernmost section of the Mozambican coast towards the border with Tanzania. Made up of just a few dozen islands, this remote area is about as Robinson Crusoe as it gets.
Indian Ocean sunrises, turquoise waters, fantastic snorkelling, and some of the best whale watching in Africa is waiting for you on Mozambique’s vast sweep of unspoiled coastline. Yet it is still an undiscovered gem, waiting to be explored.
You’ll find the Bazaruto Archipelago just off the central Mozambican coast. A grouping of six white sand islands that are either a short helicopter flight or slightly longer boat journey from the mainland.
