Both new and old combine in Delhi, as thousand-year-old architecture merges with modern life to create this stimulating megacity.
Begin your Indian adventure in New Delhi, where you will be staying at The Lodhi. Perfectly located in the heart of this buzzing city, use your hotel as a springboard to see Delhi. Explore the famous artworks of Chennai’s up and coming artists in the Lodhi’s Apparao Gallery to get a taste for contemporary Indian life. Those looking to adventure outside the hotel’s walls can spend a day venturing into both New and Old Delhi, stopping at local attractions such as the Red Fort, Qutub Minar, and Humayun’s Tomb.
No trip to India would be complete without a stop at the majestic Taj Mahal, one of the wonders of the world.
Travel south to Agra, where you will spend the night at The Oberoi Amarvilas. Take advantage of staying in the city’s only hotel with unobstructed views of the Taj Mahal, with balcony views to watch the light of the bright white moon bounce off the white marble of the Taj. The next morning, rise early to be driven by golf buggy to the gates of the ivory mausoleum for your chance to explore one of the wonders of the world (almost) all to yourself.
See the glorious pink terracotta buildings that give Jaipur its nickname, and explore the city’s rich royal heritage.
Be transferred onto Rambagh Palace in Jaipur, where you will walk in the footsteps of many generations of Rajasthan’s royal family. Upon your arrival, you will be welcomed by decorated camels, horses, elephants, and ladies dressed in traditional Rajasthani attire. Head out into the bustling Pink City to discover the old quarters, filled with delicious street food, thriving artisanal stalls, and a maze of bustling bazaars. A wander around here makes for perfect souvenir shopping: pick up some of Jaipur’s famous Zardozi embroidery created with beautiful gold and silver thread.
Stay on the edges of Bandhavgarh National Park to venture into the jungle for exhilarating wilderness-centred activities.
Begin your adventure of the Indian jungle – one of the few places in the world where wild tigers can still be spotted – at Samode Safari Lodge in Bandhavgarh National Park. Head out on game drives with one of the lodge’s captivating guides, and watch as the jungle comes alive by inspecting fresh tiger spoors. Listen out for the warning calls of wildlife alerting the presence of tiger, and follow the alerts through the jungle to spot one of these majestic creatures. Those looking to tick off their wildlife checklist will also have the opportunity to spot panthers, wolves and a colourful array of butterflies.
Take a trip into tiger country with a stay in Kanha National Park, where big cats can be spotted over breakfast.
Travel south into the Kanha-Pench corridor, one of the most important tiger corridors in India. Stay at Sarai Kothi Kanha, in the middle of the national park, to be completely immersed in the Indian wilderness. Creep along the jungle tracks of Kanha on a game drive to increase your chances of spotting wildlife hiding in the grass. Keep your eyes peeled for orange flashes of tiger, as well as leopard and Indian wild dog. Those looking to connect with the jungle on foot can follow their guide on a bird walk along the Banjar River to see the 300 avian species who call Kanha home.
Give back by lending a hand at important tiger conservation work in the most concentrated big cat habitats in India.
Move onto the other side of the Kanha-Pench corridor to stay at Jamtara for the most authentic Indian jungle haven. Spend long days out in the wilderness of Pench with the camp’s naturalists to be immersed in tiger conservation, where game drives are combined with stop-offs to check jungle camera traps and lookouts for poaching traps. End your Indian tiger adventure by sleeping out in a star bed – traditionally used by farmers to watch over their crops – and fall asleep listening to the nocturnal sounds of the jungle and the distant noise of tigers.
