Southern Namibia: Kalahari, Canyon & Desert
Namibia is a country best experienced slowly, with time to appreciate the extraordinary changes in scenery as you travel south. Start this 10 day journey in the Kalahari, where red dunes glow at sunrise and sunset, before heading to the immense Fish River Canyon. Descend into the canyon itself with a guide, swimming in pools along the Great Fish River before continuing towards Aus and the desert landscapes of NamibRand. Along the way, explore the abandoned diamond-mining town of Kolmanskop, search for oryx and springbok, and discover the desert on foot, by bike and on guided drives. DAYS 1-3
Central Highlands
Arrive in Windhoek before setting off south into the Western Kalahari, where gently rolling red dunes create spectacular sunrises and sunsets. Enjoy a sundowner nature drive to see the area's wildlife, then explore the soft sands by e-bike or on foot, with opportunities to encounter oryx, springbok and ostrich.
DAYS 4-5
Fish River Canyon
Continue south to the Fish River Canyon, the second largest in the world, and spend the afternoon taking in the views from your lodge. The following day, descend to the canyon floor with a guide to learn about its unique geology, swim in pools of the Great Fish River and enjoy an alfresco lunch.
DAYS 6-9
NamibRand Reserve
Travel to the desert outpost of Aus, with time to enjoy hiking and biking trails or simply relax. Continue to NamibRand Reserve, stopping at the historic former diamond mining town of Kolmanskop, before exploring the reserve's jagged mountains and red sands on guided drives, walks and e-bike trails, with wildlife including springbok and oryx.
DAY 10
NamibRand Reserve
Set off from NamibRand on the road back to Windhoek, where you will drop off your rental car before catching your international flight home.
