Where to go in July

July is when the Great Migration begins to gather momentum. The herds are pushing towards the northern Serengeti, and the drama of the Mara River is beginning to unfold. But rather than promising a particular crossing on a particular day, our safari specialists work with the movement of the animals — positioning you well and giving nature the final say.

In Europe, we’d be tempted away from the obvious. Greece is wonderful from the water, but rather than staying in one resort, charter a boat and explore smaller islands and hidden coves at your own pace. Or head north to Scandinavia, where cooler temperatures and extraordinary landscapes make it an excellent month for active family travel.

In Peru, July’s dry skies make it a superb time to explore the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. Go beyond the headline sights and spend time with local communities, walk ancient trails or stay somewhere beautifully remote.

Further south, Patagonia is deep in winter. This isn’t the time for long hikes, but for travellers who love snow, mountains and dramatic landscapes, the southern Andes offer a completely different experience. Combine Chilean and Argentine Patagonia with cosy lodges, fireside evenings and exceptional food and wine.
