Cusco & Sacred Valley
Cusco and the Sacred Valley sit at close to 3,000 metres above sea level, and that altitude alone is reason to build a slower pace into the itinerary. But the real argument for taking your time is cultural rather than physical, from Inca stonework still standing in Cusco’s streets to the working villages and markets scattered across the valley below. Rushing this part of Peru means missing most of what makes it worthwhile.
