Rio San Juan
The Rio San Juan runs from Lake Nicaragua down to the border with Costa Rica, and its banks hold the Indio Maiz reserve, one of the largest protected rainforests in the region. Dense jungle presses right up to the water, and boat trips along the river turn up a steady stream of birdlife and wildlife. It remains one of the least visited corners of Nicaragua, which is very much part of its draw.
