Easter Island
Easter Island, or Rapa Nui, sits some 2,300 miles from mainland Chile, making it one of the most remote inhabited islands on earth. The moai, the enormous stone figures carved by the island’s original Polynesian settlers, are the reason most people come, but it is the isolation itself that leaves the deeper impression. Two or three days is enough to see the main sites properly, without the crowds that similarly famous landmarks elsewhere tend to attract.
