Edinburgh
Edinburgh is Scotland’s capital and one of Europe’s most handsome cities, its skyline dominated by the castle that sits high on volcanic rock above the Royal Mile. History is everywhere here, from the medieval closes of the Old Town to the elegant Georgian terraces of the New Town, both part of a UNESCO World Heritage site, yet the city feels thoroughly modern too, especially each August when the Festival Fringe takes over every corner.
