Porto
Porto, Portugal’s second city, grew up around the Douro River and still has the feel of a large village rather than a metropolis, with a beautifully preserved old town threaded with narrow lanes. Unsurprisingly, given it lends its name to port wine, the city’s cellars and wine bars are among the best anywhere, and a rooftop with a glass of tawny at sunset is not a bad way to end a day here.
