Algarve
The Algarve in southern Portugal built its reputation on golf and golden sandy beaches, and reliably long, hot summers keep visitors coming back year after year. The coastline stretches for kilometres and draws plenty of company in peak season, but head slightly inland or further west and a quieter, more authentic side of the Algarve reveals itself, with good food and genuinely welcoming people throughout. It rewards those willing to look beyond the obvious resorts.
