Western Australia
Western Australia takes up the entire western third of the country, most of it arid Outback with barely a road through it. The population, and the interest for travellers, concentrates in the fertile southwest, around the Margaret River wine region and the riverside capital, Perth. The distances involved mean this is not a state to rush; allow time to move between Perth’s ease and the more remote landscapes further out, and the scale of Western Australia starts to make sense.
