South Australia
South Australia deals in genuine wilderness. The Bunda Cliffs run for 100 kilometres along the Great Australian Bight, dropping sheer into the Southern Ocean, while inland the Nullarbor Plain stretches away almost featureless and the Simpson Desert rises into red dunes. It is one of the emptiest corners of the country, and travelling through it, whether along the cliffs or into the desert, gives a real sense of how much of Australia remains untouched.
