Northern Territory
The Northern Territory holds the Outback at its most dramatic, nowhere more so than the Red Centre, where Uluru rises from the desert alongside the domed rock formations of Kata Tjuta and the sheer walls of Kings Canyon in Watarrka National Park. Distances here are vast and the light changes constantly through the day. Watching Uluru shift from ochre to deep red at sunset, having driven for hours to reach it, is what makes this part of Australia feel genuinely remote.
