Cultural Triangle
Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle links the ancient cities of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa with Kandy, tracing well over two thousand years of Sinhalese royal and religious history. Anuradhapura’s dagobas and Polonnaruwa’s carved Buddhist monuments sit within landscapes that have reclaimed much of the surrounding jungle, giving the ruins a raw, unrestored quality that is genuinely affecting. Sigiriya’s rock fortress, rising abruptly from the plain nearby, is usually the natural centrepiece of any visit to the region.
