Tabin Wildlife Reserve
Tabin Wildlife Reserve, in eastern Sabah, is one of the last strongholds of the Bornean pygmy elephant and also holds a healthy population of Borneo’s endemic wild cattle, the tembadau. Mud volcanoes inside the reserve draw wildlife to lick minerals from the ground, creating a genuine wildlife-viewing hotspot rarely found elsewhere on the island. It receives far fewer visitors than the Kinabatangan, making it a good choice for travellers who have already covered Borneo’s more established wildlife circuits.
