Udaipur

Udaipur’s nickname, the City of Lakes, hardly does justice to its centrepiece, the City Palace overlooking Lake Pichola. Built up over centuries by successive maharanas, its courtyards and frescoed halls open onto views across the water that explain why this is often called Rajasthan’s most romantic city. Stay for the evening, when the palaces along the lake are lit up, and Udaipur makes a strong case for being saved until last on any Rajasthan itinerary.
