Jaipur
Jaipur earned its nickname, the Pink City, from the terracotta wash applied to its old town buildings in the 19th century, a colour scheme still maintained today. The bazaars within those walls are where the city comes alive, stalls piled with textiles, block-printed fabrics and fine jewellery, much of it made by craftsmen working just streets away. Rajasthan’s capital rewards slow mornings spent wandering rather than a checklist of forts, though the City Palace is worth the time too.
