Gangtey
Gangtey lies within Bhutan’s Wangdue Phodrang district, a wide glacial valley of open meadows ringed by forested mountains. Each winter the rare black-necked crane arrives here to roost, and the valley’s monastery holds a festival in their honour, drawing villagers down from the surrounding hills. It is one of the few places in the Himalaya where conservation and daily life sit so visibly side by side, and the quiet of the valley floor is hard to forget.
