Mana Pools National Park, Zimbabwe

Mana Pools National Park

Mana Pools National Park takes its name from the pools that remain in the old river channels running through its terraces, Mana meaning four in Shona, after the largest of them, which hold water throughout the year. It is one of the few places in Africa where walking safaris are permitted without the usual restrictions, so encounters with elephant, lion and the resident wild dog packs happen properly on foot. Sitting quietly by one of the pools at dusk, watching game come down to drink, is Mana Pools at its best.
