Lake Kariba
Lake Kariba stretches along the Zambezi River for some 226 kilometres and up to 40 kilometres wide, covering around 5,000 square kilometres, which makes it the largest man-made lake in Africa by volume. Houseboats are the classic way to explore it, drifting past elephant swimming between islands and fish eagles calling from the shoreline. It has a slower, more contemplative rhythm than a conventional safari, which makes it a good place to end a longer Zimbabwe itinerary rather than start one.
