Cederberg Mountains
Some 250 kilometres north of Cape Town, the Cederberg Mountains are among the most scenic parts of South Africa and among the least visited, which is very much part of the appeal. Craggy sandstone peaks and open plains are scattered with caves and rock shelters holding ancient San rock art, some of it thousands of years old. Walking here has a solitude that is hard to find elsewhere in the Western Cape. A few days based at a remote farmhouse is the best way to take it in properly.
