Cape Winelands
No visit to the Western Cape is complete without a few days in the Cape Winelands. South Africa’s wine industry dates back to the seventeenth century, and towns such as Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, framed by the Cape Fold mountains, are dotted with historic estates that welcome visitors for tastings and long lunches. The setting is as much the appeal as the wine itself, with gabled Cape Dutch architecture scattered among the vineyards. It is easy to fill several unhurried days here without feeling like you have ticked a box.
