Fish River Canyon
Fish River Canyon lies in the far south of Namibia and ranks as the second largest canyon in the world, running for 160 kilometres, reaching 27 kilometres across at its widest and dropping 550 metres at its deepest point. Photographs rarely do it justice; standing on the rim at sunset, as the rock face turns deep red, is a far better way to understand its scale. Multi-day hiking trails cross the canyon floor for those wanting to get among it rather than simply look down.
