Ekorian’s Mugie Camp is a private camp with an exclusive location on the Mugie Sanctuary in North Laikipia, where game and birdlife viewing is prolific. The camp is simply designed with a central mess area and six spacious but cosy tents, each en-suite with hot and cold running water and flush toilets under thatched roofs. Ekorian’s Mugie Camp is a semi permanent camp. The owners, Josh and Donna, designed the camp with a small team of carpenters and tailors; with the notion to make as little impact on the environment as possible. The camp is solar powered, and has specially designed water heating boilers. Josh was able to put his carpentry skills into good use and much of the furniture was made in camp with the local dead olive wood –which the Turkana name “Ekorian” derives.Being in the heart of the Mugie Sanctuary brings days full off activities and excitement. From the comfort and safety of camp, one can enjoy frequent sightings of animals including elephant, giraffe, buffalo and more. The evenings also bring excitement in the form of four different owls in camp, as well as bush babies, lions roaring and hyenas laughing. It’s fun to take on an early game drive before coming back to camp for a hearty breakfast and to see what the rest of the day has in store.
