River Nile
The Nile is Africa’s longest river, rising at Jinja in Uganda before threading through Sudan and into Egypt, where some 95% of the population lives within a few kilometres of its banks. It has irrigated this stretch of desert for millennia and carried the trade that built the Valley of the Kings nearby. Travel its length by boat and the country reveals itself gradually, temple by temple, village by village, in a way no road trip ever could.
