For the next part of your family adventure, you will fly to Sandakan Airport with a transfer to Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. Head to the Rainforest Discovery Centre to test your head for heights on the canopy bridge. Look out for some of Borneo’s spectacular birds and for the giant flying squirrel that comes out at dusk whilst high up in the trees. You will also be visiting the Sepilok Rainforest Reserve, home to one of only four orangutan sanctuaries in the world. At the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre you can learn about the battle to protect the Orangutans for encroaching deforestation, watch baby orangutans play in their jungle gym as well as catch a glimpse of some older rehabilitated orangutans during the morning feeding centre. Then you’ll head over to the Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre to see the lesser-known and endangered Sun Bear- the smallest of the bear species.

Spot a slow loris or bioluminescent fungi out on a guided night walk and look for tropical birds and swinging monkeys whilst exploring the canopy walkway high up in the trees. Hike through the trails of the forest for a chance to see a swinging wild orangutan before climbing to an ancient burial site to enjoy panoramic views over the valley. To escape the midday heat, cool off in a beautiful waterfall and its rock pools before spending the evening taking in the sights and sounds of the surrounding rainforest on the deck of your open lodge.
